MITIGATING SPAM IN TM NETWORK

Dear valued customers,

Telekom Malaysia Berhad wishes to inform its customers about TM's initiative in combating spam in its Internet Protocol (IP) network to improve our quality of service.

Recently, many anti-spam organizations have blacklisted a large number of IP addresses from TM’s network. Due to this many customers have been unable to send emails from their mail server to companies who might be using database from the abovementioned anti-spam organizations.

These spamming activities by a small group have affected a large number of our customers, regardless of the nature of their Internet usage. .

Therefore, TM is taking immediate action to address this issue. Effective 3 December 2007, TM will block OUTBOUND Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) traffic or port 25 for all out going e-mails from dynamic IP addresses. Only Outbound SMTP traffic from smtp.streamyx.com and smtp.tm.net.my will be allowed.

This guide will help you set up your device's Windows Mobile 5 email software to sent/received email.

1. Open the device's e-mail client by selecting Messaging from the Start menu.

 2. Select New Account from the Accounts menu.

 3. Provide your e-mail address in the Enter e-mail address field. Tap Next.

 4.  At the Auto configuration screen, tap Next (or Skip if the process has not completed).

 5. Enter your name in the Your Name field and your Internet ID in the User name field. Tap Next.

 6.  Select POP3 for Account type and enter a useful name for this account, e.g., user. Tap Next.

7.  At the Server information screen, enter the following information.

- Incoming mail: mail.afteroffice.com

- Outgoing mail: mail.afteroffice.com

- Domain: afteroffice.com

8. Tap Options.

9.  For your device to check for new messages, automatically, check the Connect and check for new messages every box and specify the number of minutes between checks (15-20 or more is recommended). Verify that Connection is set appropriately for your device. Tap Next.

10. Unchecked the option :- Require SSL connection, Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication, and Use Separate Settings boxes. To limit the date range of messages to be downloaded to the device, check the Only display messages from the last X days box and set the number of days accordingly. Tap Outgoing Settings.

11. Select either Get message headers only or Get full copy of messages from the drop-down list. Downloading message headers only may drastically reduce the amount of time required to receive messages and does allow full messages to be downloaded individually. If receiving headers only, set the Include option accordingly (this determines how much of the message will be downloaded initially). Tap Finish.
